About the Department
The Department of Environmental and Resource Economics (ERE) at Dhaka School of Economics (DScE) was established to meet Bangladesh’s growing need for expertise at the intersection of economics and the environment. DScE itself was founded in 2010 to “promote advanced studies and research in economics,” with a special emphasis on applied environmental and development economics. In line with this mission, our department launched South Asia’s first undergraduate program in Environmental & Resource Economics in 2015. Our vision is to build a “Centre of Excellence” in environmental economics, pursuing challenging, research-oriented education. Faculty research and teaching strengths include climate change economics, water and natural resource management, environmental policy, energy and sustainability. The department’s applied research program focuses on issues such as poverty and environmental challenges, with special emphasis on climate, water and other emerging development concerns.
